‘Leading Ladies’ is the Hill Country Community Theater’s first show of the 2008-2009 arts season

Other planned shows include:

 “Driving Miss Daisy,” Nov. 13-23

This Pulitzer Prize-winning drama covers the 25-year relationship between a wealthy strong-willed Southern woman and her equally indomitable black chauffeur, Hoke. Both are outsiders in their society — Hoke because of the color of his skin and Daisy because of her Jewish faith. Despite their differences, the pair come to realize their similarities, only after time and age have taken their toll. Performances also include “Stage Struck,” an original one-act play written by HCCT Executive Director Jim McDermott. Auditions Sept. 29-30.

 “Something’s Afoot,” Feb. 19, 2009-March 8, 2009

This musical murder-mystery spoofs the popular “whodunit” genre while taking a satirical poke at detective novels and musical styles of years past. The story has 10 people stranded in an isolated English country estate during a raging thunderstorm, only to be picked off one by one by a fiendishly clever killer. Auditions Dec. 8-9.

 “Barefoot in the Park,” April 23, 2009-May 3, 2009

Written by renowned playwright Neil Simon, this romantic comedy combines love and laughs. A newlywed couple are having trouble adjusting to life together in their walk-up apartment as they learn to deal with each other’s quirks. Will young love survive? Auditions March 2-3, 2009.

 “Once Upon a Mattress,” July 16, 2009-Aug. 2, 2009

This tale turns the traditional story of “The Princess and the Pea” on its head, giving audiences a musical look at how the story really happened. Carried on a wave of popular songs, the show combines hilarity, romance and music. Auditions May 11-12, 2009.
