Bulldogs almost close the gap

BURNET — Burnet Bulldog basketball head coach Roy Kiser would have liked the win, but a 64-56 loss to Taylor still left him feeling mighty good about his ball club’s effort this early in the season.

“We are doing the important things it takes to win, so we are preaching consistency in those areas,” Kiser said. “I am feeling better about our guard play with Zakk Revelle scoring 21 and John Melvin hitting some threes.”

Despite a slow start against the Ducks Nov. 21, the Bulldogs stormed back.

“We got down early by nearly 20,” Kiser said. “We came back to within three by halftime and tied it up in the fourth but couldn’t pull it out.”

After scoring only 11 points in the first quarter, Burnet scored 15, 16 and 14 points in the next three quarters mainly on the play of their guards.

“We have to get scoring from our guards, and they responded,” the coach said. “I was also pleased with going to the free-throw line 30 times.”

Kiser added the team’s rebounding was solid.

The Bulldog defense also held Taylor to only four points in the second quarter to stage their run.

Besides Revelle, junior Ben Cardozo dropped in 11, Melvin had six and Aaron Doucet added two points.

Posts Chaston Hall, a junior, and senior Tyson Denton finished with nine points.

Burnet remained winless after two games, while Taylor stayed unbeaten at 2-0.

The Bulldogs face Dripping Springs at The Doghouse, 1000 The Green Mile, Tuesday.
