Events provide plenty of local holiday magic

HIGHLAND LAKES — The holidays are just around the corner and folks in the Highland Lakes are gearing up for a busy season. Here’s a sampling:

BLANCO COUNTY

Johnson City holiday events are: Nov. 29, Clickety Cloggers at 5:30 p.m. on the Courthouse Square, followed by the Lighted Hooves and Wheels Parade at 6:30 p.m.; Dec. 12, Movies under the Stars begin at dark on the north side of the Courthouse Square; Nov. 29-Dec. 21, The Johnson City Garden Club hosts its annual ornament and craft sale Saturdays and Sundays from from 6 – 9 p.m. in the Courthouse lobby.

Dec. 13, A Timeless Christmas in Johnson City includes an 1860s Christmas in the Cabin, as well as a 1920s Christmas at the LBJ  Boyhood Home, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Johnson Settlement at the Lyndon B. Johnson National  Historical Park in Johnson City. Dec. 21, the 39th LBJ Annual Tree Lighting is 5 – 9 p.m. at the LBJ Ranch, 14 miles west of Johnson City.

BURNET

Bike giveaway

The holidays are coming and it’s time to gather bikes, tricycles and wagons for the Great Christmas Bike Giveaway at the Burnet Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas on the Square festival Dec. 13.

Last year 150 bikes were given away, said Chamber Director Patty Alford.

Bluebonnet Chorale

Enjoy a free performance of Christmas music with the Bluebonnet Chorale 3 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 601 N. Wood, at the corner of Wood and Lamon. There is no charge, but donations are appreciated.


Main Street Bethlehem

First Baptist Church of Burnet, 108 S. Vanderveer, created this ministry as a way to remind people what Christmas is really about. And every year, thousands of people flock to the event to walk the streets of Bethlehem, making their way to the stable where Jesus was born.

Hundreds of volunteers don period costumes and participate in the event. Main Street Bethlehem is Dec. 5-7 and 12-14 from 6-9 p.m. each night. 

MARBLE FALLS

Arts and crafts sale

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church’s arts and crafts ministry annual holiday bake- and-crafts sale is Dec. 6 from 9 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. and Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Parish Activity Center. Harmony School Christmas Celebration

Harmony School of Creative Arts presents its third annual Christmas Celebration at Lakeside Pavilion, 307 Buena Vista Drive, in Marble Falls, 6 p.m. Dec. 7. The string and chamber orchestras, voice faculty and students, a wind section, adult chorale group, and the First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls Chancel Choir will perform. Walkway of Lights

Enjoy a display of more than a million lights, holiday scenes and even a visit by Santa Claus at this traditional holiday destination on the shores of Lake Marble Falls, 307 Buena Vista Drive in Lakeside Park.
