Deadline looms for 2009 Elder Care Fair sponsorships
MARBLE FALLS — Organizers are hoping to attract more participants than ever before to the 2009 Highland Lakes Health Care Partnership Elder Care Fair.
Sponsors and exhibitors are invited to participate in the fair Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of the Highland Lakes, 1701 Broadway.
Signups are being accepted now; applications are due Dec. 10. The event is held every other year.
“Our 2007 event welcomed more than 800 attendees and featured more than 80 sponsors and exhibitors, a speaker’s panel, concessions and activities,” said spokeswoman Kathy Fletcher. “Approximately $13,000 worth of free health screenings were performed.”
Fletcher said exhibit booths can feature healthcare professionals, diagnosticians, attorneys, bankers, investment representatives, accountants, planning consultants, representatives from nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, medical equipment companies and pharmacies.
“We welcome anyone specializing in the health, comfort and general well-being of the elderly and their caregivers,” she said.
Sponsors already registered to participate include Llano Memorial Healthcare System, Scott & White Healthcare, Seton Highland Lakes Hospital and Clinic, Cancer Care Centers of South Texas, Gateway Gardens and Gateway Villa, Air Evac Life Team, Chiropractic Family Care—Dr. Connie Lavoie and May I Help You Inc.
“The hospitals and clinics will perform free healthcare checks such as screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose,” Fletcher said. “The Texas Department of State Health Services will offer flu and other vaccinations. We will also have free vision and hearing screenings.”
In addition, Fletcher said they are hoping to offer bone-density measurements “as has been done in the past.”
The event is handicap-accessible and Fletcher said wheelchairs will be available at the front door. Volunteers will provide escorts if needed.
“It’s important to note that all parking around the Boys & Girls Club, including the lot, will be deemed handicap parking for the event,” she said. “All other attendees must park at the Marble Falls Elementary School and two shuttles will run continuously from the lot to the exhibits.”
Volunteers from local civic organizations will help with parking, traffic control and the concessions.
“We honestly couldn’t do this event without the help of volunteers and our local civic organizations,” Fletcher said. “The Marble Falls Noon Rotary sponsors the concessions that offer fresh fruit, coffee, juice, bottled water and other healthy snacks at a nominal price of 25 to 50 cents.”
Exhibit space is still available, but on a first-come first-served basis. To ensure a reservation, booth or sponsorship, e-mail the event coordinators to request a form. Return the completed paperwork with a fee by Dec. 10 to HLHP, 301 Main St., Suite 200, Marble Falls, TX 78654.
