Ponies battle Badgers

LAMPASAS — The Marble Falls Middle School seventh-grade C basketball team lost to Lampasas, 29-19, Nov. 20, in the Ponies’ season opener.

After falling behind early, the Ponies battled back to pull within seven points at the half, coaches said.  During the third period, the Pony offense continued to work the ball and make shots while the defense — led by Micah Wooten, Ben Mezger, Lane Bingham, Taylor Tackitt and Josh Robles — stiffened up, forced some turnovers and scored on some fast breaks to pull within five points by the end of the period, coaches said.

With rebounding from Eddie Garcia, Chance Armstrong, Josh Robles and Colten Hagood, coaches said, the Ponies had several scoring opportunities late in the game to close the gap but failed to capitalize.

Scoring for the Ponies were Wooten with eight, Tackitt and Robles each added four, Garcia scored two and Colten Hagood dropped in a free throw.

Speaking of his team, coach Joe Herring said, “I’m real proud of the boys. They hustled, made some great plays, and fought hard till the final buzzer.”

Next up for the Ponies will be the Bullpups of Burnet Middle School Dec. 1.
