MARBLE FALLS — Marble Falls High School boys basketball coach Bruce Etheridge will make his home debut tonight when the Mustangs welcome Round Rock Westwood for an 8 p.m. tipoff.

“We’re looking forward to it,” he said. “Hopefully, we’re going to play our style.”

The game will be at Max Copeland Gym, 2101 Mustang Drive.

“They are an extremely quick team this year,” he said. “There’s not as much size as there used to be.”

Westwood has a new coach this season, Brad Hastings.

“They run a more rugged man-to-man,” the Mustangs skipper said. “I think they’ll be a formidable challenge for us. They have an inexperienced team like we do.”

Marble Falls is led by a group of sophomores who will be playing in their second varsity game of the season including Connor Docherty, Shane Minnick and David Morgan.

In the loss to Hays Consolidated Nov. 19, Docherty and Bron Etheridge, the coach’s son, each scored 18 points, mostly from the three-point line.

Defensively, the coach wants his athletes to do better in their man-to-man defense.

“Our program hasn’t played a lot of man-to-man in the past,” he said. “We’ll stick with that, so we can get better for later. We’ll run our basic defense and hope we can get better.”

The Mustangs will host Fredericksburg Monday at 8 p.m. and will have middle school night as well.

“It’ll be exciting,” Etheridge said. “They can see what’s coming.”

Marble Falls will travel to face Dripping Springs Tuesday.
