HCCT seeks volunteers for upcoming World War II show
HCCT Executive Director Jim McDermott says the theater will present “They Called Them Angels,” a collection of remembrances, stories and monologues detailing the lives and services of nurses serving in the military during World War II.
McDermott and assistant director Tim Maher are seeking volunteers to assist with the show’s multimedia aspect.
“We need someone to help with the collection and projection of images, and someone to help with acquiring and organizing props and memorabilia of the time,” McDermott said.
The play is an original work adapted from the writings of author Kathi Jackson.
“The show is taken from actual interviews of the nurses who served and loosely spans from (the attack at) Pearl Harbor to the end of the war,” McDermott said. “It is a collection of monologues, dialogues, letters and simple remembrances.”
McDermott said the performance will include a multimedia presentation, in addition to the actresses’ words.
“As the actresses recite, images and sounds from the war will complement their stories,” he said. “There will also be songs and music from the time to transition from one piece to the next.”
Actresses Debbie Balsam, Priscilla Castaneda, Vickie Cody, Francie Dix, Pam Hawley, Carolyn Lloyd and Linda Maher will perform as nurses, with musical accompaniment by Kristine Robinson.
Peformances of “They Called Them Angels” are set for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5-Dec. 6, and 2:15 p.m. Dec. 7.
HCCT is also holding the final weekend of performances for “Driving Miss Daisy,” with shows at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and 2:15 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets for both shows are $15. Call (830) 798-8944 for tickets or to volunteer.
