Rain postpones MFalls Veterans Day activities

“Everything is still at the same time and same locations, but it’s just been moved to Saturday,” said Virginia Roberts  of the Civic Club Roundtable.

The roundtable, which includes several area civic clubs, is sponsoring the parade.

“I think it was in the best interest for everybody,” Roberts said. “We had several antique cars scheduled to come, but I’m not sure they should have been on the road in the wet weather.”

The parade is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at Third Street before traveling south on Main Street and eventually halting in Johnson Park.

The end of the parade takes people to the second part of the Veterans Day celebration — the dedication of the Marble Falls Veterans Day Memorial.

The Marble Falls Noon Rotary will hold the ceremony at 11 a.m.

Roberts said one of the main reasons for postponing the parade and dedication was because of the mud around the monument.

After being cleared to make space for the granite memorial, much of the immediate area is bare ground.

Even though organizers have been forced to push the event back four days, they say it might be a good move for both spectators and participants.

“We had 24 units confirmed (for Tuesday),” Roberts said.

“There were three marching groups, five floats and eight antique cars. It was a super response,” she added.

But several people with antique cars who wanted to participate in the parade told Roberts they couldn’t do so Tuesday because they had to work.

Now with the event being held Saturday, Roberts said it might give more people the chance to participate.

At least she hopes so.

“This will also give a better chance for kids to come and see the parade,” she said. “Everybody should wear red, white and blue and bring a flag to thank the veterans for their service,” Roberts said. “I think it’s really going to turn out great.”
