Falcons consistently good
The 13-and-under squad, which is a member of the Granite Country Youth Soccer Association, is currently second in the League Super II U13 boys it shares with other Austin-area teams.
The Falcons showed little hospitality to the East Austin Rattlers Oct. 25 when they took a 5-1 win.
“The one goal is killing us,” coach Jeff Reyes said. “We’re blowing people out and are getting too comfortable, and they score.”
Jeff Harmon scored in the third minute, while Joaquin Ramirez added another from the left side in the 43rd minute.
“He punched the ball in from a tight angle,” Reyes said.
Alejandro Osornio scored on a rebound.
The other two goals came when the Rattlers kicked the ball into their own net.
The Falcons have four games remaining, while other squads have three. But the loss to Lone Star White, 1-0, motivates the team, the coach said. That was the Falcons’ first loss in three years.
“The game we lost was a total fluke,” he said. “We had hurt players on the field. We had no subs. They scored in the last 40 seconds.”
The Falcons have scored 19 goals in six games compared to other league teams scoring 17 in seven contests.
They beat Lone Star White South, 3-1, Georgetown, 6-1, and Cen-Tex Storm, 4-1.
The Falcons will travel to face a squad from Kyle-Buda Saturday, Nov. 1, and then go to Dripping Springs Nov. 8.
“The last time we met up with (Dripping Springs), we beat them, 8-0,” Reyes said.
The Falcons, who have won state and regional titles, are known throughout the area, the coach said, which means they believe opponents will try harder to get a win.
“That makes it that much harder,” he said. “You know you could lose. That opens up a door to everybody else. When it comes to first place, they’re not going to hand that to us on a silver plate.”
Reyes said one trait about his players is they perform at their best when they must knot a victory.
“When they’re under pressure, they work a lot better,” he said.
