Burnet HS band travels to Alamodome for state contest Monday
BURNET — Officials are urging fans to line U.S. 281 Monday to cheer Burnet High School’s Esprit de Corps as they make their way to the state band competition in San Antonio.
Officials said parents, fans, students and teachers should be on the roadside by 10 a.m. as the buses start their journey to the Alamodome.
“Hope you all can be there,” head band director Mike Lewis said in an e-mail.
The band put the final touches on their performance this week while preparing to compete for the University Interscholastic League State Division 3-A title.
The EDC consists of the Bulldog marching band and the Highlandettes drill team.
Twenty Texas high schools will compete in the 3-A contest, which begins at 9:30 a.m. Burnet’s first performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. Seven bands will be chosen from the daytime performances to advance to the final round that evening, and state finals will begin at 7 p.m. Lewis is assisted by Darcy Williams, Dusty Rhea and Roger Williams. The Highlandettes drill team instructor is Caity Robertson.
The group last attended a state competition in 2002, and this is the third time they have advanced to the state rounds under the direction of Lewis.
Those attending the contest can purchase tickets to the UIL Texas State Marching Band Contest at the Alamodome’s ticket gate for $14 (adult single session) or $21 (adult one day pass for prelims and finals).
Student tickets are $8 each. There is a $10 parking fee per car.
