Ponies shut out the Dripping Springs Tigers
The Ponies took the opening kickoff and drove down the field. A big pass play from quarterback Aidin Parnell to receiver Garrett Gray set up the Gray two-yard touchdown run two plays later. The point — after a pass from Parnell to wingback Parker Heath was successful, giving the Ponies a 7-0 lead.
In the second quarter following several great stops on defense, fullback Carson Bowen scored from 10 yards out for the final score of the night. The point after failed.
The Pony defense had an excellent night keeping the Tigers far from the end zone. Punter Bowen pinned the ball down on the two-yard line to aid the effort.
Coaches said outstanding defensive players were linebackers Tyler Lindholm, Israel Guzman and Gray, defensive backs Justin Torres, Steven Petroski (who had a fumble recovery), Austin Bird and Cody Seelig, and defensive tackles Chase Fry, Josh Warren and Cody Skipper.
Also the outstanding offensive players were Parnell, offensive lineman Josh Tovar, Justin DeSpain, Josh Robles and Bailey Jackson, running backs Bowen, Austin Fryar and Devon Tharp and receivers Ben Mezger, Zach Atchison and Parker Heath, who each ran and blocked well.
The Ponies’ final game is Monday at Mustang Stadium, 1511 Pony Circle Drive, against Westridge at 6:30 p.m.
