Marble Falls graduate earns National AP Scholar honors
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program recently announced athat Hicks is both an AP Scholar with Distinction and a National AP Scholar.
“We’re extremely proud of this young man,” Principal Allen Roberts said. “He has worked so hard to get to where he is today.”
Roberts said the recognition is based on how a student performs on the AP exams. In order to get the honor, Hicks had to earn an average grade of at least 3.25 on all his AP exams. Roberts said Hicks also had to earn a grade of three or better on at least four of the exams.
For the National AP Scholar, Hicks earned an average of at least a four on all his AP exams and must have earned a grade of four or better on at least eight of the exams.
“This is truly an amazing accomplishment,” Roberts said. “There aren’t a lot of students who earn the National AP Scholar when you consider how many high school students are in this country.”
Hicks graduated No. 5 in his class before heading to Franklin.
Hicks is the son of Marble Falls’ residents Bryan and Catherine Hicks.
Bryan Hicks, a local attorney and Marble Falls councilman, said the family found out about the honors from a letter the College Board sent.
“It just makes you feel so proud as a parent,” Hicks said. “He’s a smart kid and he’s worked so hard.”
The Hicks family recently spent the weekend at the college in Needham, Mass.
“We had a great time getting to see Keifer and where he’s going to school,” Hicks said. “He’s really settled in well. But it keeps him real busy. I think he’s had three stretches of 48 hours where he’s gotten only four hours of sleep.”
