“It’s an opportunity for our girls to get some insight,” she said.
The self-defense class, which Gamble had organized when she was at Kerrville High School, will be conducted from noon-3 p.m. Saturday at the Mustang Gym, 2101 Mustang Drive, at $60 per participant, which is limited to 40.
“Our girls really enjoyed it,” Gamble said, noting the students who were college-bound felt more confident after attending the class.
Morris Arredondo will instruct the class. He holds black belts in three styles of martial arts.
Arredondo is the founder of MA3, the art of self-reliance, according to published reports. It is the culmination of Arredondo’s experience in tae-kwon-do, bushido karate and aikijujitsu.
Students will be taught hand-to-hand combat in the first two hours, while the last hour will emphasis survival training such as what to do if a vehicle breaks down.
According to statistics, three of every four American females will be groped, grabbed or
physically attacked in their
lifetime.
“It’s an opportunity to feel confident and be able to protect themselves,” Gamble said. “When they go off and meet people, they don’t know that not everyone has their best interest at heart.”
