Group to give $21,000 in grants and scholarships

 

 MARBLE FALLS — The Highland Lakes Service League plans to award $21,000 in scholarships and grants during the 2008-2009 service year, with funding to 25 nonprofits in Burnet and Llano counties awarded Sept. 30 during the league’s grants announcement ceremony.

 

 

Representatives from the recipient organizations received their donations — totaling $16,000 — from Nancy Parmeter, chairwoman of the league’s Grants Committee, during a ceremony at the Marble Falls Public Library. 

In addition to these monies, the league will award $5,000 in scholarships. League members also volunteer at various community events to help community organizations with their fundraisers and other activities.  

Grant recipients include:  

Boys & Girls Club of the Highland Lakes; Burnet County Child Welfare; Burnet County Mental Retardation Board, dba Interface Industries; Burnet County 4-H and FAA; Camp Agape; Children’s Day in the Park; Community Resources Center of Texas; Family Crisis Center of Highland Lakes; Friends of Herman Brown Free Library; and Friends of Hospice Highland Lakes.

Also, Friends of Marble Falls Library; Granite Shoals Christmas Outreach; Helping Center of Marble Falls; Highland Lakes Health Partnership; Highland Lakes Respite Center; Highland Lakes Senior Center; Highland Lakes SPCA; Highland Lakes / Hill Country Long-Term Recovery Committee; Joseph’s Storehouse Food & Clothing Pantry; Lakes Area Care Inc. (LaCare); Marble Falls Senior Activity Center; St. Frederick’s Church Mission Outreach; St. Vincent De Paul Conference / St. John’s Catholic Church; Seton Highland Lakes Care-A-Van; and Williamson-Burnet County Opportunities Inc.
