Two assistant basketball coaches at Marble Falls take on head coaching jobs at other districts

MARBLE FALLS — Two Marble Falls High School assistant basketball coaches will be head coaches at other school districts beginning in the 2012-2013 academic year.

They are freshman boys basketball coach Travis Crain, who will lead Lytle, and Lady Mustangs varsity assistant coach Carrie Grona, who will take over at Fredericksburg. Both schools are in Class 3A.

MARBLE FALLS — Marble Falls High School junior post Kiara Etheridge was named one of the "Best in State" for the 2011-2012 season by the 24th annual Texas Basketball Magazine.

Etheridge said she was surprised by the honor, especially since her season ended in early December because of a knee injury.

Burnet's Grant Cole plays in all-star basketball game

PFLUGERVILLE — Burnet High School senior guard Grant Cole participated in the first ever Central Texas Coaches All-Star basketball game April 28 as a member of the North team. The South won 102-92.

"Grant did very well and held his own against some very good 4(A) and 5A athletes, some of which Grant helped to defeat over his career at Burnet," Bulldogs head coach Roy Kiser said.

BURNET — Two members of the Burnet High School girls basketball program have been recognized for contributions during the 2011-2012 season.

Assistant girls basketball coach Doug Messer was named the Class 3A Assistant Coach of the Year, while junior Logan Skoog was on the list of Student Assistants of the Year, both by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

BURNET — A return trip to the Class 3A girls basketball regional tournament isn't the only highlight of the year for the Burnet High School Lady Dawgs.

Head coach Mike Cavender was named the Dean Weese Class 3A Coach of the Year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, while senior Taryn Rosow was named to the academic all-state teams of the Texas Girls Coaches Association and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, and senior Callie Haley was named to the TABC team.
