GRANITE SHOALS — One candidate for City Council won by a narrow margin May 12, while another contender easily pulled ahead of his two opponents.

Also, voters by a margin of 179-95 approved an additional one-fourth of 1 percent sales tax for street repair and maintenance.

GRANITE SHOALS — In full view of a Granite Shoals police officer, a woman allegedly tried to pass off a forged check to a teller at a local bank, according to the investigator.

But before she could complete the transaction, the officer stepped in and placed her under arrest.

"I was actually standing in the bank in full uniform about four feet away from her," Granite Shoals Police Capt. Clint Low said. "She was even having a conversation with me."

GRANITE SHOALS — Complaints that a proposed solid-waste ordinance may create too much overregulation led the City Council to send it back for more work.

"If that ordinance passes, there are things that are not feasible to comply with because they are not industry standards," said Tanis Jamar who, with husband David Jamar, owns and operates J Bar Contractor's Services in Granite Shoals.

GRANITE SHOALS — A 22-year-old woman arrested after police say they found suspected crack cocaine during a traffic stop has bonded out of Burnet County Jail.

Cynthia Martinez posted a $52,000 surety bond April 22 after being charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance 4-200 grams, a first-degree felony; possession of marijuana under 2 ounces, a Class B misdemeanor; and speeding.

GRANITE SHOALS — The death of a 52-year-old man who was tasered in a struggle with police has been ruled a homicide resulting from methamphetamine intoxication and restraint procedures, according to an autopsy.

Willie Ray Banks was tasered, handcuffed and shackled by law officers during a disturbance Dec. 29 in the 1100 block of Churchill Drive, according to reports.
