Ronald Wayne Woods, 61, of Highland Haven died Sept. 18, 2012. He was born on Sept. 16, 1951, in Amhurst to Charles and Frances (Hunter) Woods.

At 9 years old, he and his family moved to Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio.

He served his county in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Joan Butts in Schertz at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Aug. 2, 1974.

He was a Department of Public Safety trooper until retiring in 2008 as a trooper lieutenant. He spent most of his career at the state Capital.

He moved from Austin to Highland Haven in 2008. After retirement, he also worked for the Llano County Sheriff’s Office and volunteered as a chaplain. He was ordained as a deacon in the Catholic church in February 2007. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Kingsland and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

In his spare time, he enjoyed camping; coaching children’s sports; cruising to Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, Hawaii and numerous other places; playing golf; and saltwater fishing with his father-in-law and son.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Joan Woods, of Highland Haven; son Charles Woods and wife Jennifer of Granite Shoals; granddaughters Mariah, Isabella and Victoria Woods; mother Frances Ready of Albuquerque, N.M.; and several brother and sisters.

Visitation was Sept. 21 with a Rosary at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. A Mass of Christian Burial was Sept. 21 at St. Helens Catholic Church in Georgetown. Burial with military honors was at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown.
