Russell Dale Newell, 65, of Burnet died Aug. 22, 2012. He was born in Norway, Maine, on March 10, 1947, to Arthur Lorin Jr. and Frances Eleanor Hodgkins Newell.

He served for 20 years in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and retired as a master sergeant in 1986 at Hill Air Force Base in Utah with numerous military achievements and medals.

In 1986, he began his career as an owner/operator truck driver and worked for numerous companies including Giltner, JB Hunt and Greatwide. He had a passion for driving and passed through every state in the continental United States.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football and spending time with close friends.

Survivors include his second wife Levetta Samford May Newell of Burnet; sons Russell Newell Jr. and wife Melissa, Jason Newell and Paul Newell, all of Utah; stepdaughter Sandra May Motloch Ashe of San Antonio; father Arthur; brothers Lorin and Lynn; sisters Lisa and Dawn; nieces and nephews; granddaughters Kylee and Audrey; and stepgrandsons August Motloch IV and Wesley Motloch.

He was preceded in death by his mother Frances and brother Bryan.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at St. David’s Hospital in Austin for their care, kindness and compassion.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. Sept. 1 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222.
