Viola Pearl Ritter Rogers, 90, died July 22, 2012. She was born in Alan, Okla., on Nov. 6, 1921, to Melvin A. and Lilly Pearl Watts Ritter.

She was married to Woodrow W. Rogers for 47 years and, as a stay-at-home mother, raised their children, Beverly Sue Grantham, Gary Rogers and Rowena Rogers Brooks, while living in Big Spring.

She was a devoted and godly wife and mother, leaving the legacy as a Proverbs 31 woman. She taught Sunday school at Phillips Memorial Baptist Church and was a volunteer at the VA hospital.

After her husband’s retirement, they moved to Granite Shoals, where they made their home for 30 years. She spent the past six years in Houston, living independently near her daughter Rowena.

“Bodie,” as she was known, was the epitome of a genuine lady; she had a distinct style and grace about her that was radiant.

Survivors include daughter Rowena Brooks and husband Mark of Houston; daughter-in-law Claudetta Rogers; grandchildren Mark, Julie, Kaitlyn, Carlotta, Cathy, Jacquie, Tammy and David; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son Gary; daughter Sue; and grandson Carl Grantham.

A funeral service is 1 p.m. July 28 at Edgar Funeral Home, 2105 U.S. 281 in Marble Falls, (830) 693-5808.
