William ‘Bill’ Reson Guthrie Jr.

<p>William "Bill" Reson Guthrie Jr., 82, of Tow died July 8, 2012. He was born in Pahokee, Fla., on Jan. 1, 1930, to William Reson Sr. and Helen (Gibler) Guthrie.</p>
<p>In his teens, he moved to Miami, where he enjoyed the sand, sun and water until he joined the military in 1947.</p>
<p>One of his early assignments was at Connally Air Force Base near Waco, where he met and married Irene Popp of West in January 1949. His other tours of duty included Laredo; the Korean War; Japan; Eglin Air Force Base, Florida; Perrin Air Force Base; Ankara, Turkey; Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota; Albrook Air Force Base, Panama Canal Zone; and Bergstrom Air Force Base, where he retired in 1971 as a senior master sergeant.</p>
<p>Afterward, he began his second career as a meat inspector, working for the state of Texas out of an office in Corpus Christi, then moving to the Waco area. He retired again in 1993.</p>
<p>In 2004, he met and married Ellie Highland and moved to Tow on Lake Buchanan.</p>
<p>Up until the time of his recent illness, he was happiest when he was at the beach, barbecuing and drinking beer with family and friends. He always had a twinkle in his eye and was ready to crack a joke. He will be missed.</p>
<p>In addition to his wife, survivors include son Joe Guthrie and wife Jackie of Buchanan Dam; daughter Sue Farr and husband Chuck of Round Rock; stepsons Michael Highland of Tennessee and Billy Highland of Georgia; grandchildren, Jennifer (Fox) and Chris Lopez, Trisha (Guthrie) and Kevin Duroy, Lorraine (Fox) and Billy Hammett, Shelley (Guthrie) Kasper, Reson Guthrie and Frank and Victoria Guthrie; great-grandchildren Dustin Fox, Caitlyn Kasper, Riley Hammett, Joshua Duroy, Tracer Lopez, Laney Hammett, Jayme Duroy, Leyton Duroy and Sarah Guthrie; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; son Kent William Guthrie; sisters Billy Mays and Dolores Wilmot; and brother Mickey Guthrie.</p>
<p>A celebration of life service will be held at a future date at the home of his son, Joe Guthrie.</p>
