Kirby Owens Wright
Kirby Owens Wright, 71, of Granite Shoals died June 7, 2012, in her home. She was born Nov. 25, 1940, in Bertram to Alfred Nolan and Myrtle Kelley Owens.
She graduated from Rockdale High School in 1958, and was on the All-state Basketball Team and the All-star Basketball Team her senior year.
She was one of the first inductees into the Rockdale Athletic Hall of Fame.
She met her husband William “Sonny” Wright at Cisco Junior College in 1958. They married Aug. 8, 1959. She worked as an administrative assistant at Texas State University-San Marcos, known at the time as Southwest Texas State University.
She loved vacationing, the beach, fishing with her husband and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her husband of 53 years, survivors include daughter Crystal LaVerne Brooks and husband Bill of Austin; son Denzal Edward Wright and wife Kristi of Fredericksburg; grandchildren Kasey Wright, Kolby Wright and Madison Wright; brother Denzal Owens and wife June of Burnet, Alfred Owens of Weir, and Pud Owens and wife Willye of Rockdale; niece Teresa Derickson and daughters Nicole Gilmore, and Kelli Coufal; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Charlie and Bob Owens; and sister LaVerne Hall.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. June 8 at Edgar Funeral Home, 2105 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-5808.
A graveside service is 2:30 p.m. June 9 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet. The funeral procession leave the funeral home at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers include Kasey Wright, Kolby Wright, Daniel Harper Wilder, Dalton Owens, Dennis Owens, Dustan Owens and Steven Owens.
