Marie Cecile Zagst
Marie Cecile LaMarque Zagst, 94, died May 26, 2012. She was born in Shreveport, La., on March 5, 1918, to John and Lonnie Maura LaMarque.
She graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport. When she was teaching school in Houma, La., she met Charles Zagst. They were married on Dec. 14, 1941, one week after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The two were founding members of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the St. Cecilia’s Women’s Club and the Catholic Charity Guild.
Widowed in 1985, she always lived life to the fullest. She was a wonderful example for her family and friends of how to live a rich, meaningful life. She “wore out” rather than “rusted out.”
Survivors include sons Chuck and wife Terry, Walter and wife Doris and Fred and wife Kay; grandsons Trey and wife Joni and Rusty and wife Angela; and great-grandchildren Jacob, Spencer and Tatum Zagst and Garrett Lancaster.
She was preceded in death by husband Charles and grandson Benjamin.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. May 31 at Waltrip Funeral Directors in Houston. A Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. June 1 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Houston with entombment in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
