Joyce Jerrenne Schneider
Joyce Jerrenne Schneider, 89, of Tow died May 11, 2012. She was born in Pearl on Aug. 2, 1922, to Gilbert and Wannie White.
She married W.J. “Duber” Alexander and moved to Tow in December 1941. They were married for almost 40 years and had four sons: Lonnie, Glendal, Dennis and Robbie. She later married Warren Schneider of Castell, and they resided in Tow until his death in 1998.
She and her first husband operated fishing camps at Cedar Point and Pecos Courts on Lake Buchanan for about 25 years. She loved the hard work, the lake and the fishing that went along with the business.
She was most at peace in life when she was “up the lake” running trotlines. Her favorite passion was catching big yellow catfish, and she kept one of Tow’s biggest tourist attractions with a string of trophy heads hung on the roadside fence in front of her house. She was most proud of the 60-pounder she caught and landed by herself.
Aside from being a gifted angler, she was the best mother. Raising four sons, she had very little household help. She had to contend with tubs of catfish being cleaned on the kitchen floor or gill nets hung across the living room to be untangled. There were always trips to little league baseball games or to the emergency room for stitches or embedded fish hooks.
She was a great cook and renowned for her homemade buttermilk biscuits, cream gravy, chicken-fried venison and banana pudding.
She was known as “Grandma Fish” by her grandchildren.
Survivors include sons Glendal Alexander and wife Ralaine and Dennis Alexander and wife Debbie, all of Tow, and Robbie Alexander and wife Cindy of Bedford; three grandsons; and four granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; sister “Sis” Word; brother Waymon White; and son Lonnie Alexander.
Visitation was May 12 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. A service was May 13 at First Baptist Church in Tow.
