John William Owens
John William Owens, 86, of Temple and formerly of Sunrise Beach, died Jan. 10, 2012. He was born in Jackson, Tenn., on July 20, 1925, to Warren Franklin and Mary Alma (Gowan) Owens.
He attended Webster High School in Webster. After high school, he worked for Union Carbide Chemical in Texas City and retired after 37½ years of service.
He married Diorah Mae Linder April 22, 1950, in Richmond. He enjoyed traveling in his recreational vehicle and visited all 48 contiguous United States.
He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Temple.
In addition to his wife of Temple, survivors include sisters Louise Jones and husband Albert of Pasadena and Carolyn Kibodeaux and husband Paul of Onalaska; brother Thomas Owens and wife Margaret of Temple; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister.
Visitation is 7-8 p.m. Jan. 12 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple. A service is 10 a.m. Jan. 13 at Memorial Baptist Church in Temple with the reverends Bill McCormick and Ridge Adams officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery near McDade.
