Harold Charles ‘H.C.’ Carothers

Harold Charles ‘H.C.’ Carothers, 89, of Liberty Hill died Dec. 4, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born in Bell County on Jan. 18, 1922, to Harlan and Lavinia Louise Curry Carothers.
He attended school in Belton and graduated from Goldthwaite High School. He enlisted in the Navy and later the Merchant Marines during World War II.
After the war, he married Betty Zane Williams and had four children. He owned and ran a grocery store in Georgetown for many years. He was a builder and a rancher, after he sold the grocery business.
He attended Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bertram for many years.
Survivors include his children Christie Chapman of Liberty Hill, Cindy Black Potts of Goldthwaite and Cody Carothers of Liberty Hill; grandchildren Charles Carothers of Fortaleza, Brazil, Charlene and Cathleen Carothers, Patrick and Charles Bruce, Neal Chapman, Tonya Sherwood, T.W. Sherwood, Christi Ahrlett and Cody Laird; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; son Curry Carothers; parents; and brothers and sisters.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Dec. 7 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444. A graveside service is 11 a.m. Dec. 8 at Mahomet Cemetery in Burnet County.
Memorial contributions may be made to a Catholic charity of choice.
