Cheryl Alicia Harned

Cheryl Alicia Harned, 54, of Richmond died Sept. 12, 2011. She was born in Great Falls, Mont., on Feb. 17, 1957.
She attended Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, graduating with honors. She also graduated with honors from Texas A&I in 1980 with degrees in English and French.
While attending A&I, she met her future husband. They married May 11, 1978.
After several years in the workforce, she began pursuit of her second degree, graduating from Houston Baptist University in 1986 with a Master of Science in management information systems and computing. Her career included management positions at EDS, Herman Hospital Systems and Enron in 1988-2000 and finally as a project manager at Shell Oil and other companies.
She was passionate about helping others. In quiet ways, she gave. Among her gifts to friends and those in need was help attending college. Most important, she gave more than just the financial support. She understood some people needed encouragement, and she helped friends find the courage they needed to go to school. She also provided praise and emotional support in helping them with self-esteem, the awareness of how much they could accomplish and discovering that their dreams could be made real.
She loved the Mediterranean, Paris, Istanbul, cruising, wearing long dresses to formal events. She was famous for dressing up — she created costumes for herself and for others including a memorable Lone Star Beer outfit. She created jewelry using precious and semi-precious stones and was a silversmith and artist.
She was a voracious reader of history and science. She loved giving dinner parties, sharing and laughing with friends. She enjoyed cooking and wine.
Mostly, she loved doing things with those she loved.
