Jon W. Terrell, 70, of Kingsland died Aug. 11, 2011. He was born in Stillwater, Okla., on May 28, 1941, to Theodore and Lenora Leslie Terrell.

After moving to Houston with his family, he graduated from Bellaire High School in 1960. He earned a Bachelor of Science in agriculture from the University of Houston, where he was an avid Cougars fan.

He served in the Marines 1960-1966 and was active during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After working as a rice-farmer consultant, cowboy and steel-barn fabricator in Refugio/Eagle Lake and raising his children in Bellaire, he settled in Kingsland, where he was employed with the Thelma Miller real estate agency and finally as a field appraiser with the Llano County Appraisal District.

He was a member of the JayCees in Refugio, president of the UH alumni association, president of the Aqua Boom Festival in Kingsland and an active counselor with the Bellaire Presbyterian and Kingsland Community Church youth groups.

He was an avid 1950s rock ‘n’ roll fan and a devoted fan of all Houston sports teams, especially the Houston Cougars and Houston Oilers/Texans.

Survivors include sons Kelly W. Terrell of Woodbridge, N.J., and Todd D. Terrell of Huntsville; four grandchildren; brothers Phillip Terrell of Dripping Springs and Victor Smith Terrell of Lockhart; sister Terisa T. Brown of Kingsland; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Aug. 19 at Putnam Funeral Home & Crematory, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008.

A service is 11 a.m. Aug. 20 with the Rev. Carl White officiating and the Highland Lakes Honor Guard furnishing military honors.
