J.W. Huggins Jr.

J.W. Huggins Jr., 91, of Bertram died June 19, 2011. He was born in Burnet County on June 2, 1920, to J.W. Sr. and Cordie Russell Huggins.

He attended school in Joppa and later finished in Bertram. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6974 in Burnet and the Joppa Baptist Church in Joppa.

He worked for John Deere 40 years as a heavy-equipment mechanic until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Marie Odis Huggins of Bertram; children J.W. Huggins III and wife Wilma of Bedis, Richard Huggins and wife Jennifer of Lockhart, Cathy Whitfield and husband Brian of Burnet and Connie Alvarado of Bertram; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Juanita Huggins Baker; and son Alan Wayne Huggins.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. June 21 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444. A service is 10 a.m. June 22 at the funeral home with the Rev. Gordon Bergstrom officiating.

Pallbearers include his grandsons Randall Huggins, Anthony Valdez, Phillip Whitfield, Daniel Whitfield, William Huggins, Joseph Alvarado and Christopher Huggins.
