Mary Jane (Bauer) Smith passed away Sept. 2, 2016, in Llano, Texas, at the age of 83. Mary Jane was born on April 25, 1933, in Llano County to Walter and Mary E. (Morton) Bauer. She grew up in Castell, Texas, and graduated at the early age of 16 from Llano High School.
Mary Jane married Willie M. Smith on Jan. 1, 1950. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1997, after 47 years of marriage.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Llano. She was employed by the U.S. Post Office as a postal clerk in Llano for 34 years. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Llano Food Pantry. Some of her hobbies included sewing for the community, quilting, and attending all of her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.
She is survived by her children, Willie and Dianne Smith of Llano, Ada Jo and Charlie Bauman of Llano and Jimie Ruth Langehennig of Mason; grandchildren Jennifer Buchanan, Neda Jo Bauman, Craig and Devyn Bauman, Joe David and Jeri Langehennig and Zac and Donna Langehennig; great-grandchildren, Jordan Cavness, Justin, Jacob, and Jaycee Buchanan, Jalen Bauman, Caden, Curren and Celten Bauman, Kalen and Olivia Langehennig and Grant Stockbridge; sister Dorothy and husband John Harold Schuessler; brother Winfred and wife Carmen Bauer; sister-in-law Dortha Landess; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as grandson Walter Allen Smith, sister Lillian Draper and brothers Sherman Bauer and Weldon Bauer.
Pallbearers are Joe David Langehennig, Zac Langehennig, Craig Bauman, Jalen Bauman, Jordan Cavness, Justin Buchanan and Grant Stockbridge.
Honorary pallbearers are Neda Bauman, Jennifer Buchanan, Caden, Curren and Celten Bauman, Jacob and Jaycee Buchanan and Kalen and Olivia Langehennig.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sept. 4 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. A service is 10 a.m. Sept. 5 at the funeral home with the Rev. Jerald Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Llano City Cemetery.
