Wallace W. Walker, 87, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away Aug. 10, 2016. He was born to Harold N. and Patricia Ruth (Morris) Walker on Dec. 20, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Mr. Walker proudly served the United States of America in the Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars and received a bronze star for both conflicts as well as an oak cluster.  He retired to Sunrise Beach Village with his wife, Darlene, who was the city secretary for many years.

Wallace was the parks and road maintenance engineer for Sunrise Beach for 11 years. He also served as the fire chief for the Sunrise Beach Volunteer Fire Department for four years. He and his wife were also EMTs for the fire department.

Mr. Walker was in charge of developing the records management system for the VA hospitals, and that system is widely used by the health care industry to share information on patients with doctors so they can provide optimal care.

In his spare time, Wally enjoyed reading and was an accomplished artist, but only painted for family and friends.

Wallace is survived by his daughters, Christine Jones and husband David of Dale, Bonnie Walker of Fredericksburg, Teri Walker of Sunrise Beach and Kim Walker of Maple Grove, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; sister, Dorothy Tiner; and brothers, Don Walker, Harold Walker and Stan Mason.

A memorial service is 3 p.m. Aug. 13 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. The Rev. Robert Billingslea will officiate. Interment is 1:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Full military honors will be given.
