Juan Hernandez Garcia, 80, died unexpectedly April 17, 2016, in Burnet County, Texas.

He is survived by his sister Lupe Garcia Suarez; sons, John (Cynthia), Jason (Nancy) and Jeremy (Stephanie) Garcia; as well as grandchildren, Julia, Theadora, Raquel, Beatrice, Jude and Adam.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amelia and Lupe Garcia; wife, Beatrice Felan Garcia; and an infant daughter, Judy Elizabeth.

He was born in Stamford, Texas, on Dec. 20, 1935, and spent most of his childhood in Pontotoc, Texas.

Juan worked at many jobs over his lifetime to support his wife and family. He picked cotton all over Texas (he nearly lost a hand in a cotton gin accident) and sheared sheep and goats in Texas, Wyoming, South Dakota and Colorado. Later, when his first child was born, he found work closer to home. He worked many years as a construction foreman in the Austin area.

In his later years, he took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren.

Dad was a simple, private man who led by example, teaching his sons the value of hard work and never giving up no matter what. He would be upset, however, if we did not mention he will be missed by his faithful companions the last months of his life: his rat terrier Manchas and cat Bootsie.

A rosary was April 22 at Edgar and Jenkins Family Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444. A funeral Mass was April 23. Burial followed at Las Tres Marias Cemetery in Liberty Hill.
