FROM STAFF REPORTS

MARBLE FALLS — While voter attention is mostly focused on the upcoming Republican and Democratic primaries in March, Highland Lakes school districts are getting ready for the May 7 election.

The first stop is announcing the filing dates for people interested in running for board of trustee spots. Each of the three area school districts — Marble Falls, Burnet and Llano — have seats up for election.

The filing dates are Jan. 20-Feb. 19. Candidates must reside within the district in which they wish to file. There are other qualifications as well that can be found in the districts’ candidate packets.

Packets are available at school district central offices with some available online as well.

Board of trustee terms are three years. School districts stagger the seats so not all spots are on the ballot at the same time.

In Marble Falls, places 1 and 2 are up for election. Mike Savage currently holds Place 1, while Karl Western holds Place 2. For those interested in running for the Marble Falls Independent School District board of trustees, packets may be picked up at the MFISD central office, 1800 Colt Circle in Marble Falls, or found at marblefallsisd.org.

Call (830) 693-4357 for more information.

In Burnet, places 1 and 5 are up for election. Charles Williams is the current Place 1 board member, while Andy Feild is the Place 5 member.

Burnet Consolidated Independent School District board of trustee filing packets are available at the BCISD central office, 208 E. Brier St. in Burnet.

Call Sharon Schwartz at (512) 756-2124 for more information.

Llano Independent School District has three spots on the May ballot. Those are places 2, 6 and 7. Cody Fly currently holds Place 2, Lyn Jenkins holds Place 6 and Ronnie Rudd holds Place 7.

Applications are available at the LISD central office, 1400 Oatman St. in Llano. Call (325) 247-4747 for more information. Packets may be picked up Monday through Friday during regular business hours. The packets are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 19.
