David Barthel Overbey Sr., 72, of Kingsland died Dec. 29, 2015

David Barthel Overbey Sr. of Kingsland, Texas, formerly of Lincoln, Illinois, passed on to be with his Heavenly Father on Dec. 29, 2015. He was at home at the time of his death.

Dave was born on July 20, 1943, in Elkhart, Illinois, to Ira F. and Helen Laughner Overbey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, father-in-law, mother-in-law, a sister-in law and two brothers-in-law.

Dave and his family moved from Lincoln to Kingsland in March 1980.

Dave is survived by his wife, Luana Mae Overbey; daughter, Charmale D. Gallagher (Eric) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; son, David B. Overbey Jr. of Blaine, Tennessee; grandchildren, Lt. Kia Gallagher, USN MC (Lt. Andrew Moore, USN MC), PO3 Shannon Gallagher, USN, Eric James Gallagher and Samantha Overbey Abbott (Andrew); and great-grandchildren, Aren Richard Cotton, Joshua Daniel Abbott and Natalie Alanya Abbott.

Dave served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 through 1966. His daughter, son-in-law and son also all served with the Marine Corps. He was a Christian and member of Highland Lakes Baptist Church, where he served as an ordained deacon. For 25 years before his illness, he conducted Sunday morning worship service at Kingsland Hills Nursing Home.

A graveside service is 2 p.m. Jan. 5 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park near Burnet.

Memorials may be given to Highland Lakes Baptist Church in Kingsland or Wounded Warriors.
