Barbara Sadler, 85, of Marble Falls passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 2, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. A Celebration of Life is 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at First Christian Church, 401 E. Cypress in Johnson City.

Barbara Norman Sadler was born Oct. 5, 1930, to David and Lucille Norman, a pioneer family of Killeen, Texas. Barbara was the second of four children. She graduated from Killeen High School and attended Texas Christian University.

Barbara married William King “Bill” Sadler on Dec. 25, 1949. Together, they raised five children. They lived in Killeen, where Barbara was a homemaker to the family and stood by Bill’s side as he built businesses in the sheet metal, air-conditioning and ready-mix industries. In 1978, they moved to Marble Falls. Bill and Barbara made countless lifelong friends while living in Killeen and Marble Falls. Just recently, they had moved to Johnson City.

Spending time with Bill, her children and grandchildren was Barbara’s passion and joy. She also loved traveling, and her love for the beach is ingrained into her children and grandchildren. An avid creative, Barbara enjoyed sewing, gardening and making jewelry in her spare time. She was a light in the lives of those surrounding her as she pushed for them to take their own perspective leaps of faith.  The first year women could become pilots, Barbara began her lessons to become one herself through Texas Christian University.  She enjoyed flying and, furthermore, succeeding in all endeavors.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; brother Robert Norman; and sister Carol Haenisch. She is survived by her husband, Bill Sadler of Johnson City; daughter Susan Atchison and husband Jerry of Killeen; son David Sadler and wife Julie of Marble Falls; son Jim Sadler and wife Cheryl of Ocala, Florida; daughter Luanne Coleman and husband David of Johnson City; daughter Missy Swift and husband Randall of Dripping Springs; and sister Jan Norman of Salado. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Fallan Sadler, Burt Wier, Drew Sadler, Bo Sadler, Bill Wier, Ty Sadler, Bradley Wier, Callie Swift, Clay Swift and Cara Swift, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Burt Wier, Drew Sadler, Bill Wier, Ty Sadler, Bradley Wier and Clay Swift. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Buckley, Ricky Ray, Zip Zipperlin, Dennis Condor, Mark Fox, Stan Collier and Paul Peebles.

Barbara was blessed to have been in the loving care of her granddaughter, Bo Sadler, RN, throughout her illness. The family wishes to extend a most heartfelt thank you to Brandy McKennis, Rachel Luevanos and the Scott & White Hospice team for also providing Barbara with compassionate and loving care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Research at alz.org and the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
