MARBLE FALLS — The car seat inspections usually held at the Marble Falls Area EMS are postponed — for now.

Baylor Scott & White Health branch, which sponsors the event, has dissolved the program, said Marble Falls Area EMS operations director Kevin Naumann.

“Now we’re kind of free floating about what to do,” he said. “I don’t know how quickly we can get up and going.”

Much of that depends on the EMS finding new partners to help underwrite the program. Naumann noted anywhere from 15 to 30 car seats were given free to low-income families. The EMS offered the program every other month.

“The program itself is educational in nature,” he said. “Some come for the education (on car seat safety), and more come in need for help with the actual seats.”

And the seats are new instead of used because of the liability, Naumann said.

“Once it’s involved in an accident, you can’t use it again,” he said. “You can’t know where they’ve been before.”

Anyone interested in partnering or learning more should call the EMS at (830) 693-7277.
