Hospital offering free injury evaluations for student-athletes
FREDERICKSBURG — Hill Country Memorial, orthopedic surgeons and rehabilitation specialists are teaming up to offer free orthopedic and physical therapy evaluations to middle school and high school athletes on Saturdays through Nov. 7.
The Sports Injury Clinics will be 7:30-9 a.m. Saturdays at Hill Country Memorial, 1020 Texas 16 in Fredericksburg. The program will be conducted by volunteers, including physicians and staff from HCM Imaging Department, HCM Rehab Clinic, HCM Medical Group and Texas Hill Country Orthopedic & Sports Medicine.
“Our Sports Injury Clinics allow us to get our athletes back on the field, court or track as quickly and safely as possible,” said Dustin Embrey, director of imaging at Hill Country Memorial.
Organizers emphasize that there is no need for athletes to “jog it off” if they have been injured. After an evaluation, Sports Injury Clinic volunteers provide athletes with instructions for their team trainers and coaches to promote healing and avoid further injury.
Things to know:
• The evaluations are free, but if any injury requires imaging, splinting or casting, such expenses are the responsibility of the student’s parent or guardian.
• Evaluations are first-come, first-serve. No appointment is necessary.
• A parent or legal guardian must accompany the student-athlete.
• Please bring insurance information and enter through Hill Country Memorial’s admissions entrance.
Past clinics have evaluated student-athletes from Blanco, Boerne, Burnet, Comfort, Fredericksburg, Harper, Ingram, Johnson City, Junction, Kerrville, Llano, Mason, Marble Falls, Menard, San Saba and Stonewall.
