‘Superheroes Wanted’ for cancer survivors’ dinner in Marble Falls

MARBLE FALLS — Irene Mullins has a mission.
“This is just something I have to do,” she said. “It’s too important. But I love doing this. I love helping celebrate these incredible folks.”
Mullins is organizing the annual Survivors’ Dinner for area cancer survivors. The event is 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 16 at Lakeside Pavilion, 307 Buena Vista Drive. While it’s still a month away, Mullins wants to sign up as many Highland Lakes cancer survivors as possible.
“It’s an incredibly special night,” she said. “It’s a way these wonderful people can come together, share some time and stories and just enjoy the evening.”
The name of this year’s dinner is “Superheroes Wanted.” It’s an apt name since all the invitees have battled cancer or are still fighting the disease.
Along with finding cancer survivors, Mullins is seeking local businesses and organizations that want to support the dinner through donations and gift items for the attendees.
Two major supporters from previous years are back on board: Paul Brady of the River City Grille and John Arthur Martinez.
“Paul Brady has been incredible. He’s an angel without wings for us,” Mullins said. “He provides all the food and just does a great job. And John Arthur, he’s been great. He comes out and provides the entertainment.
“These two really help make the event a success and so special for the people who attend,” she added.
All area cancer survivors may attend, and each may bring one guest. The dinner is free for survivors and their guests. Survivors may register by stopping by Texas Oncology or Texas Home Health, which are located adjacent to each other at 1100 Mission Hills Drive in Marble Falls. Or call (830) 798-0149 or (830) 798-8272 for more information.
