Marie Huggins, 81, passed away Feb. 23, 2015.
A funeral service is 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at First Baptist Church in Bertram with interment to follow at Bear Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Feb. 25 at Edgar & Jenkins Family Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444.
She was born in Austin, Texas, to Charles and Catherine Odis on Jan. 7, 1934. On July 30, 1950, she married J.W. Huggins, and together, they had five children.
Marie lived in Bertram for more than 60 years and spent 32 of those years working as a CNA at Bertram Nursing Home. Upon retirement, she continued to work part time at Bertram Nursing Home.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, J.W. Huggins; son Alan Huggins; and parents, Charles and Catherine Odis.
She is survived by her sons J. Will Huggins (Wilma) and Richard Huggins (Jennifer); daughters, Cathy Whitfield (Brian) and Connie Alvarado; grandchildren, Randall Huggins, Anthony Valdez, Heather Chambers, William, Christopher and Breanna Huggins, Phillip, Daniel and Kirsten Whitfield, Jennifer Cruz, Alanda Huggins, Jordan Huggins, Joseph Alvarado, Erika Jones and Blanca Alvarado; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Odis and Paul Hello; sisters, Jeannie Holland, Betty Naquin and Frances Rose Bustin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
