Alton Ray Mullen, 78, passed away at his home in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, on Jan. 2, 2015.

Alton, also known as “Kayo” and “Moon,” was born in Florence, Texas, on March 1, 1936. He graduated from Florence High School and then had a career in the military, serving for more than 30 years in the Air Force, Army and National Guard. He lived in many different places, including England, Germany, Spain, Austin, Lexington and Marble Falls. He spent the last 10 years of his life in Florida because he loved the water so much.

He loved hunting, fishing and camping — anything to do with nature. He also loved cooking and football. He never met a stranger and his dog, Pugsy, went with him everywhere. He was a hard worker, and, although he was sick, he never complained. He always smiled and had a laugh no one will forget. He was full of knowledge of a life well spent and gave wonderful memories to all who knew and loved him.

Alton was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Mullen; daughter, Tamara Lynn Mullen; son Daniel Mullen; parents, Alton and Ethel Mullen; and three brothers, Ernest, Charles Mullen and J. Ray Mullen.

He is survived by two sons Scott Mullen and wife Lou Ann and Troy Mullen and wife Betty; three sisters-in-law, Pauline, Wilma and Lois Mullen; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Jan. 9 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373. A memorial service is 3 p.m. Jan. 10 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Florence Cemetery.
