Burnet’s Christmas on the Square features shopping and Santa
FROM STAFF REPORTS
BURNET — The Christmas fun is rolling through the Highland Lakes, and the next stop is Burnet.
The annual Christmas on the Square brings the holiday festivities to downtown Burnet on Dec. 13 with arts-and-crafts booths opening up at 10 a.m. But that’s just the start of a fun-filled day on Burnet’s historic square.
The event includes food and live music. Plus, as you walk around the square, you can check out some of the local shops, which might have that “just right” gift for somebody on your list.
And, of course, there will be chances to take photos with Santa Claus.
Speaking of chances, one of the biggest events of the day is the annual bicycle drawing. Local businesses and the Burnet Chamber of Commerce have again teamed up to purchase a bevy of bikes with all of them going to lucky kids ages 5 and younger. The drawing is open to any child in that age range.
Parents should register their children at one of several locations by Dec. 12. The locations include Cecil Atkission Motors in Burnet, First State Bank of Burnet, the Scott & White clinic on the square and the Burnet Chamber of Commerce office, 101 N. Pierce St. (just north of Texas 29 adjacent to Bealls.)
But if you miss the pre-registration deadline, don’t worry. Children can still sign up at the festival Dec. 13 next to the music stage until 3 p.m. The drawing begins immediately after the annual Christmas on the Square parade.
Oh yeah, did we forget to mention the parade?
It rolls through town starting at 5 p.m. with lineup beginning at 3:45 p.m.
Chamber officials say any organization, business, church, school, group, individual or family can participate in the parade. It’s open to “kids of all ages,” and who doesn’t feel more childlike this time of year?
Parade registration is free, but an application can be found at www.burnetchamber.org.
If you don’t feel like going home after the parade, you can check out Main Street Bethlehem, located just east of First Baptist Church of Burnet, 108 South Vanderveer. The event is within walking distance of the square and opens at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
Or you can head for the Burnet Trail of Lights, located at Riddell Park at the corner of Rhomberg Street and Texas 29 on the east side of town.
Call the chamber at (512) 756-4297 for more information on Christmas on the Square and other Burnet events.
