Delaware Springs home puts on holiday show for LACare pantry

BURNET — As a LACare volunteer, Charles Harger witnessed the need for the food pantry first hand. While volunteering twice a month at the Burnet facility helped, Harger wanted to do more.
So a few years ago, at the recommendation of a friend, he put a table in front of his house at 106 Fox Circle, located in the Delaware Springs subdivision on the south side of Burnet off U.S. 281. As people drove by, all Harger asked was that they dropped off non-perishable food items or put some money in a container.
Now, you might be asking yourself, “Why would anybody go out of their way to drive past this house and drop off food?”
Well, what about the lights?
Oh, did we forget to mention that starting in October, Harger begins transforming his home and yard into a Christmas lights spectacle.
“I start around Halloween and give the kids a little Halloween show,” he said. “Then, I start working toward Christmas.”
The effort takes a great deal of time because, along with designing and hanging the light displays, Harger also programs it to “dance” to music.
“The programming takes a lot of time,” he said.
This year, the display rolls for two hours before any musical selections repeat.
“It’s about the biggest ever this year,” Harger said.
So while driving to his house to donate to LACare might seem a bit out of the way, considering the light show people get to enjoy, it’s definitely worth it.
