MARBLE FALLS —The Marble Falls High School football team ended its season with a 45-27 loss to Georgetown East View in a District 25-5A contest Nov. 7.

With the win, the Patriots (8-2 overall, 5-2 district) advance to the playoffs.

“They’re a good football team,” Mustangs head coach Matt Green said. “We’re banged up. They probably have four Division I players.”

Marble Falls (4-6, 2-5) led 14-10 at the half, but that advantage only lasted 26 seconds into the third quarter when senior Adrian Contreras ran 74 yards for a touchdown to give the Patriots the lead for good.

That was the first of East View’s five touchdowns of six, four, 10 and one yards in the second half.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs’ second-half possessions resulted in a punt, a missed field goal, a turnover on downs, two touchdowns and an interception.

“They wore us down,” Green said. “They’re big up front. They’re punishing.”

Marble Falls senior running back Royale Brown scored a one-yard touchdown run that finished a 75-yard, three-play drive.

The Mustangs’ last touchdown of the year was an eight-yard pass to sophomore receiver Aaron Wooten from big brother Brennen Wooten, a junior quarterback. That capped a three-play, 60-yard drive.

East View began the scoring with a four-yard touchdown run by senior Cornelio Garcia with a minute left in the first quarter. That capped a seven-play, 68-yard drive.

The Mustangs immediately answered when Brennen Wooten found Aaron Wooten for a 17-yard touchdown pass to finish an 11-play, 75-yard drive.

Marble Falls turned a Garcia fumble into a touchdown by sophomore running back Daven Manning, who scored from 14 yards out. That three-play, 59-yard drive gave the Mustangs their first lead.

Just before the half, East View kicker Tre Honshtein connected on a 32-yard field goal with 19 seconds in the second quarter to trim the deficit to 14-10.

Brennen Wooten threw for 422 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Junior receiver Jacob Metcalf caught eight passes for 113 yards, all unofficial.

Contreras finished the game with 13 rushes for 149 yards and three touchdowns, while Garcia had 25 carries for 147 yards and three touchdowns.

With the end of the season, the Mustangs said goodbye to 24 seniors.

“They’re a good group of young men,” Green said. “They were really good leaders for your team. A lot of times, when kids get a new coach, they won’t give you a chance; they’re bitter. But this group was anything but. They let us build relationships with them.”

Representing District 25-5A in the playoffs are Cedar Park Vista Ridge, Cedar Park High and Leander Vandegrift along with East View. All four teams have 5-2 district records.
