Eula Maxine “Mackie” Brown Atkinson passed away Oct. 17, 2014, in Tyler, Texas. A graveside service is 3 p.m. Oct. 25 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet.

She was born in Sugar City, Colorado, on May 24, 1921, the daughter of Benjamin Stokes Brown and Eula Maxie Pearce. She lived in Sugar City, San Antonio, Houston Northside, Houston Heights, Bellaire, Lake Buchanan near Burnet and Tyler.

Mackie graduated from Jeff Davis High School in Houston. She married Thomas Vincent Atkinson in 1939. Mackie and Tom enjoyed a happy marriage until his death in 1997. She had been a resident of Meadow Lake Senior Living Community for more than three years.

Mackie spent her adult life as a homemaker, an excellent cook and a seamstress. She loved to travel. Church community was important to Mackie, and she was active in Bellaire Methodist Church and Burnet Methodist Church.

After Tom retired in 1976, and they moved to Central Texas. She surprised us all when she took up painting. Now her family and friends treasure the almost 100 wonderful paintings Mackie created.

Mackie was a warm, loving person with a wonderful sense of humor as witnessed by her family and many friends.

Mackie was preceded in death by her siblings, Clara, Margaret and Bill.

She is survived by her children, Thomas V. Atkinson Jr. (Arden), Mary Howard (Phil) and Tempe Bacarisse (Dan); grandchildren, Janet Howard-Miller (Aaron), Alline Atkinson Beutler (Dan), Mike Howard (Kelly), Thomas Winfield Atkinson (Wenyue) and Sarah Bacarisse Klepfer (Chris); and great-grandchildren, Claire Beutler, Eliza Beutler, Abby Howard, Ella Howard, Anna Howard, Frederick Atkinson, Charlotte Atkinson, Charlee Klepfer and Nicholas Howard-Miller.
