Ronald O. Brown, 77, of Granite Shoals passed away Sept. 29, 2014. He was born Nov. 9, 1936, in Quitaque to William T. and Dalsie Claxton Brown.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and retired at the rank of staff sergeant. While in Vietnam, he worked as a baker and once made an anniversary cake for Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. He was also proud to have shaken hands with John Wayne and be a part of the Burnet Gunfighters, which performed at the Burnet train station.

Ron is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Ann Brown of Granite Shoals and Edna Sue Burbage of Austin; son, Ronald William Brown of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother, James Woodrow Brown of Bertram; seven grandchildren; and his military friends, whom he considered family.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Ann, in October 2010.

A memorial service was Oct. 4 at First United Pentecostal Church in Marble Falls with the Rev. David Smith officiating. He will be laid to rest later with military honors alongside his wife at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
