Robert Ebeling left this world peacefully at home on the ranch where he was born. He was 85 years old and his wife of 64 years, Jean, was at his side. The cause of his death was the cancer he had fought for more than 30 years.

He was born Dec. 26, 1928.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marie Ebeling; brother Pete Ebeling; and granddaughter Paige Marie Ebeling.

He is survived by son, Dr. Robert Lee Ebeling Jr. and wife Elizabeth; daughter, Nancy Ebeling; grandson, Dr. Robert Lee Ebeling III and wife Ruth; great-granddaughter Eve; granddaughter, Tara Ebeling; sister, Margie Schroeter; and sister-in-law, Leta Ebeling.

Robert was one of the founders of the Burnet County Junior Livestock Show and served for years as secretary and treasurer. He also served as president of the Texas Angora Goat Raisers Association and was a longtime member of the American Angus Association.

Robert was a pioneer in the use of guard dogs for the protection of sheep and goats from predators. He was also involved in the importation from Turkey of the Anatolian shepherd dog for that purpose.

Robert spoke very little, but his word was his bond. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Friends, family and neighbors gathered for a memorial barbecue at the ranch.

Many thanks to all who came to Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, and special thanks go to nurses Vicki Thompson and Yari Arreguin, who were so kind in his caregiving.
