Mac W. Hutto, 92, passed away June 20, 2014. He was born March 13, 1922, to Roberta (McNabb) and Will T. Hutto in Bertram, Texas.

Mac was a 1940 graduate of Bertram High School. He was a quarterback in Bertram’s single-wing attack and an outstanding baseball player. After graduation from high school, he was invited by the legendary Billy Disch to play baseball for the University of Texas.

Unfortunately, Mac’s baseball career was cut short after his freshman year by World War II. Mac enlisted in the Air Force and was a pilot in Europe. He flew hundreds of missions across Europe. In his later years, Mac wrote a fascinating book of short stories, along with photos he took, of his experiences during the war.

After the war, with the benefit of the GI Bill, Mac re-entered the University of Texas. He graduated with a degree in economics in 1948.

Shortly after his graduation, he moved to Llano and was hired by Tom Moore to work at Moore State Bank.   Under Mr. Moore’s tutelage, he learned all aspects of the banking business and stayed until his retirement from the bank in 1978. After he left the bank, Mac took over his father-in-law Mick Dalchau’s insurance agency and ran it until he turned over the reins to his son Terry.

Shortly after moving to Llano, Mac met and fell in love with his wife of 63 years, Ann Dalchau Hutto.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John T. Hutto.

Mac is survived by his wife, Ann, and three children: son Wade Hutto and wife Tere, daughter Carole Ligon and husband Ernest and son Terry Hutto, who all live in and around Llano, and brother Bert Hutto of Austin. He also is survived by six grandchildren, Heather Hutto Lehmberg, Ben Ligon, Laci Ligon, Olivia Hutto, Jackson Hutto and Isaac Hutto; six great-grandchildren, Taryn Morris, Emma Morris, Cade Ligon, Rode Ligon, Elleson Lehmberg and Hutton Lehmberg; two nieces and two nephews.

For more than 60 years, Mac supported his community in many ways. He was a member of the Llano City Council and an active member of numerous civic organizations. He is a member of the Llano High School Hall of Fame. He always worked modestly and quietly, usually behind the scenes, in support of his family and the community.

A funeral service was June 23 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300, with the Rev. Leslie Tomlinson officiating. Pallbearers were Ben Ligon, Jackson Hutto, Isaac Hutto, Bill Lehmberg, Robert Hutto and Bill Hutto.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
