Ruby B. Walker passed away June 14 2014, in Chowchilla, Calif. She was born March 26, 1923, in Washington, Okla., to George and Sallie McGuire. The family moved to California and settled in the Los Angeles area before moving to Madera. She graduated valedictorian of her class from a high school in L.A.

She met a young soldier, who became the love of her life. She and William G.C. Walker married on Sept. 25, 1943. For almost 60 years, they worked side by side, whether it was in grocery stores, working cattle or growing a garden.

Ruby was a Godly wife and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took great pride in her family and extended family. She had a close personal relationship with God, and it showed in everything she did. She was a strong woman with a big, forgiving heart. God blessed her with the gifts of compassion and peace making.

She enjoyed sewing and made lots of dresses for her two daughters and later her four granddaughters. She was a great cook. Ruby had a beautiful voice and loved gospel music.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Walker, in April 2002; parents, George and Sallie McGuire; and three brothers, Otis, Alvie “Mickey” and Robert McGuire.

She is survived by two daughters, Patty and husband Lyndon Mandrell of Chowchilla and Beverly Walker Gutierrez of Madera; four granddaughters, Tricia and husband David Placencia of Chowchilla, Stacy and husband Keith Burns of Chowchilla, Tanya and husband Kent Cam of Madera and Rebecca Gutierrez of Madera; and four great-grandchildren, Baylie Toney, Lynnlee and Walker Cam, all of Madera, and Jacob Burns of Chowchilla. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Smith of Rosemead; many nieces and nephews; and Dean Kelley, who she loved like a son, and his wife, Janice, of Chowchilla.

A graveside service is 10 a.m. June 27 at Llano City Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Morrison officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chowchilla Skilled Nursing Facility, 1104 Ventura Ave., Chowchilla, CA 93610.
