Bernard Gerald Garrett, 82, passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on June 20, 2014, of natural causes.

Bernie was born Jan. 1, 1932, in Okema, Okla., to Emma and Ishmael Garrett.

One of his favorite stories to tell of his youth was playing on the Raymondville High School basketball team, The Gymless Wonders. He had kept in close contact with these friends as well as friends from Dow Chemical, where he retired 20 years ago.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Gloria P. Garrett; three daughters; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; one brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Ishmael Garrett, and his son, Gary Lee.

A graveside service is 11 a.m. June 28 at the Garrett Family Cemetery, 5132 CR 405 in Castell.
