OBITUARY: Betty Jo Kendrick, 92, dies May 6, 2014

Betty Jo Kendrick went home on May 6, 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Burl “Big Dad” and Lora Effie Davenport; sister Elline Pilkenton; and brother Fred Davenport.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, B.H. Kendrick; three sons and their families, B.B. and Kathy Kendrick, Dan and Kate Kendrick and Bryan and Peggy Kendrick; two daughters and their families, Carolyn and Mike Caplinger and Joyce and Jim Gray; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Betty was born Oct. 31, 1921, in Richland Springs, Texas. Twenty-one years later, on Jan. 23, 1942, she would meet and marry a young Marine, who would remain her one and only love. After returning from war in the South Pacific, he was called into another service — he became a preacher. They began their ministry in Corpus Christi and served in many Southern Baptist churches.
To capture Betty’s life would take endless words. For a full description, one would have to reference the Lamb’s Book of Life. Yet to sum her life up in just a few words is really not that hard: Life was never about her; it was about others. But don’t be fooled, such simplicity touched and changed the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
Visitation is 1-2:30 p.m. May 8 followed by a service at 3 p.m. at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 900 Industrial Blvd. in Kingsland, (325) 388-6767. Burial will follow in Lakeland Hills Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the building fund of First Baptist Church of China Springs, 301 Illinois, China Springs, TX 76633.
