Horace Copeland Fickling Jr. was born Oct. 5, 1938, in Wilmington, N.C., to Horace and Mary Elizabeth (Rosborough) Fickling Sr. He passed in Kingsland, Texas, on April 4, 2014.

“Fick” attended school in Austin and was very active in boxing and football. He continued both activities after he joined the Air Force. There was a serious competition between squadrons and bases in those days. He served for 20 years at various locations, including Vietnam, Alaska and England. Fick retired at Bergstrom Air Force Base and worked for Motorola for a period of time before moving to Kingsland, where he opened a shop for the refurbishing of boat props. He returned to Motorola for a few years and then retired to enjoy fishing and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Luedecke Fickling of Kingsland; daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and James Foster of Taylor and Jennifer and Kenny Pearson of Burnet; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of Fick’s life will be held at a later date.
